Real Action. Real Impact.
At Cumberland Container, sustainability isn’t a future goal, it’s a practice we live by every day. From recycling 100% of our corrugated scrap to powering our operations with solar energy, and even producing and treating ink in-house with our water filtration system. We’ve invested in sustainable systems that support a circular economy and reduce our environmental impact today, not someday in the future.
Cumberland Container believes that good packaging should protect more than products — it should protect the world we live in. Here’s how we’re doing just that.
INK & WATER
Treating every drop responsibly.
In-House Ink Washing & Water Filtration
All inks are washed off on-site using our dedicated ink washing station, reducing transportation needs and ensuring full control over wastewater. That water is then treated through our in-house filtration system — never discharged untreated.
Water Recycling
Water used in cleaning and cooling cycles is captured, treated, and reused — reducing reliance on fresh water supplies.
ENERGY
Powered by progress.
Solar-Powered Operations
Our 74-panel solar system produces a substantial amount of 50% of our facility’s energy needs, significantly reducing the plant's dependence on the grid.
Energy-Efficient Equipment
We continuously invest in high-efficiency motors and air compressors. All lights were replaced with LED lighting in 2020.
In-House Ink Production
By producing a significant portion of our ink in-house, we reduce the need for long-distance shipping and the energy that comes with it.
MATERIALS
Sustainable in, sustainable out.
Recycled and Certified Paperboard
We source recycled and FSC®/SFI® certified materials, ensuring responsible forestry and circular use.
Right-Sized Packaging
Our team designs packaging that uses as little material as needed without sacrificing durability — reducing both cost and carbon.
Water-Based Inks & Eco-Friendly Adhesives
All inks are low-VOC and water-based, ensuring a safer environment for both workers and the planet.
WASTE
Everything to cycle.
100% Corrugated Scrap Recycled
Our cyclone scrap system captures all scrap, which is then baled and sent for recycling. All scraps are sold to certified recycling partners, ensuring they re-enter the production cycle.
Closed-Loop Material Recovery
We participate in recycling partnerships to keep fibers and materials within the same industry supply chain, reinforcing circularity.
On-Site Ink Waste Management
Excess ink is filtered and treated on-site — reducing chemical waste and third-party processing emissions.
At Cumberland Container, we believe that real sustainability means doing the work. From what we buy to how we treat waste, every step at Cumberland is designed to protect our environment, reduce emissions, and uplift the communities we serve.
We don’t just talk sustainability, we live it.
